Chris Leblanc is a local Moncton football player who attends Bernice MacNaughton High School. Taking a victory lap, Chris is now in his 5th year as a Highlander. He was recently recruited and has committed to the Acadia Axemen football team, which he said was something of a long shot, and in his own words said “I honestly never thought I’d be in this position.”
Throughout his football career he has played nearly every position, mostly linebacker, slotback, running back and defensive back. Although he has had a great amount of success on the field, Chris has sometimes struggled in the classroom. He simply said “Grades almost held me back from being able to go to university if I’m being honest.”
Chris has also had a long athletic history outside of football. Growing up, he played hockey from the age of 6, later joining football, lacrosse and now running track as well. He says that his athletic ability outside of football has helped him tremendously within the sport. Although has had a long athletic history, Chris is still somewhat worried he won’t be able to keep up with the university athletics fitness level. His biggest worry is that he won’t be in the same shape as the other athletes. “I just don’t know if I’ll be in great shape at first, but I’m definitely preparing myself physically and academically so I can be the best I can be.”
Despite his worries, he also stated that he was extremely excited to have the opportunity to play football at the university level, especially for Acadia, as he never thought he would make it to this point in his athletic career. “At the end of the day I can just do my best, and I’d like to thank God and my family.”
Acadia will be in a rebuilding phase the next few years as they have recruited many high school football players in the area, and Chris is just looking to help them in his next four years and we wish our fellow Highlander the best of luck.
